Send them to the rear for healing before they die.įourth, everyone is going to have their particular preferences but my favorites would be Landschnekt, Ronin, and Black Riders. Even mercs can get decimated if they are countered properly. Third, once they've arrived it's important to take good care of them, don't just send them into battle without watching them work, otherwise bad things can happen.
It's also rare for me to ship fourth age mercenary armies since they're so expensive and don't serve one particular purpose. I also wouldn't ship mercenaries without at least 300 gold left afterwards, in case I need to muster some troops in a hurry.
My overriding priority in every game, apart from surviving, is to get to Industial as fast as possible. I don't think I ever ship mercenaries until Age IV, because I'd rather use all that gold for aging up.
